Her independent films have screened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., and PBS. Her work has been featured on KPCC Southern California Public Radio, Mental Floss, and in multiple feminist film theory journals. After serving as in-house documentarian for The Music Center of Los Angeles, she continued her work with organizations such as United Way, California Arts Council, Alvin Ailey, Otis, and Scripps College. Her recent commission, feature documentary “Re-Creation of a Masterpiece: La Prose du Transsibérien,” screened in London, NYC, and will screen in Montréal in 2022. Rosylyn graduated with honors from Harvard University with a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies, where she studied filmmaking under the tutelage of Robb Moss, Chantal Ackerman, and Ross McElwee. Upon graduation, Harvard awarded her the Gardner Fellowship to make a documentary in South Korea. 2008, she won first place in Project Sunlight, an incubator for Korean American filmmakers. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I believe every person is a universe of stories. Conversations are a discovery process and an opportunity to connect. I've interviewed kindergartners, former gang members, virtuoso pianists, football players, non-English-speaking Japanese, my dad, middle-schoolers, and many others. Hundreds of interviews have taught me one salient commonality: deep down, we all want to be heard.
